19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional title, took control to create a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early chances in a close final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
